The Chester County Sheriff’s Office is home to a number of sworn and non sworn (civilian) positions. This includes positions in our Enforcement Division, Special Services Division, Detention Center and E-911 Operations Center. Although the hiring process differs for sworn and civilian positions, many of the minimum requirements for each position are the same.

Minimum Standards =================================================================================================================
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Be at least 21 years old (18 years for civilian positions)
Possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license
Be a United States citizen
Have not committed or been convicted of any felony or serious misdemeanor
Have a clean criminal history (aside from minor traffic violations) within the last 10 years
Be able to pass a Physical Fitness Test (sworn positions only)
Have an honorable military discharge (if applicable)
Must reside in the state of South Carolina (patrol deputies only)
Hiring Time Frame
We take pride in finding the best candidates to serve Chester County. As a result, our hiring process is lengthy. This includes an extensive background investigation as well as physical fitness and written tests (sworn positions only), and polygraphs and psychological examinations (sworn positions only).
The time frame can be reduced if an applicant completes their application entirely by filling all relevant boxes and submitting all requested documents. Without a complete application, we will be unable to move forward.
Requested documents for all positions include:
Copy of Driver’s License
Copy of Birth Certificate
Copy of High School Diploma
Copy of Associate’s Degree or higher (if applicable)
Full body picture of yourself
Copy of credit history
Copy of DD-214 (if applicable)
Copy of SCCJA LE Class 1 (if applicable)
Handwritten statement detailing why you want to work at the Chester County Sheriff’s Office
Selection Process
Enforcement Division Detention Division
Complete and submit an online application
Once completed, you will be contacted for an initial interview
Complete a written test and physical fitness test
Pass an extensive background investigation
Drug Screening
Fingerprints Taken
Complete a second interview with head of the Detention Center
Final Interview with the Sheriff
If a selected candidate is not a Certified Class II Officer, the candidate will be required to earn their Class II Certification with the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia, South Carolina. The course is three weeks long, and employees will be given regular pay for their training.

Meeting with Sheriff and Chief Deputy for a conditional offer
